We are committed to ensuring that there is equality of opportunity for all our staff, patients and service users.
In order to ensure that there is equality of opportunity and no discrimination of staff, the PCT monitors information on staff both at the point of recruitment and for staff in post.
All public organisations including NHS Cambridgeshire are required by law to have Equality Schemes in respect of race, disability and gender and NHS Cambridgeshire has had these in place since its inception in 2006. But, in keeping with a growing number of leading organisations, NHS Cambridgeshire’s Board endorsed a Single Equality Scheme at it's board meeting on 3 September 2008, which goes beyond the requirements of the law currently in place. In addition to covering race, disability and gender, the proposed new Single Equality Scheme covers age, sexual orientation, religion and belief.
NHS Cambridgeshire has been undertaking work to develop an Equality Delivery System (EDS), which is a framework of how services are provided within our hospitals, community, primary care, mental health and social care settings. EDS is the way in which NHS organisations will delivery the Equality Act 2010 and other relevant legislation.
On 2 December 2011, NHS Cambridgeshire held an Equality Delivery System knowledge sharing event, which was attended by 50 Voluntary and Community Sector, and statutory sector representatives. A report on this 'Let's Engage' event can be found in the 'related downloads' section below.
