NHS Cambridgeshire's consultation period upon a revised specification for the community alcohol misuse services has now FINISHED, thank you to all who have contributed and responded.

Next Steps

It was decided in January 2009 to re-tender these services currently commissioned by NHS Cambridgeshire from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust and Drinksense. A Multi-Agency Adult Alcohol Commissioning Group (AACG) was established in November 2008, chaired by the PCT and with membership including representatives of the County Council, District Councils, Police, Probation Services, the Drug and Alcohol Action Team, and GP leads from each of the three localities within NHS Cambridgeshire. The process of drafting the new service specification has been overseen by this Group and there has been regular input from local GP mental health leads to this work.

Key features of the service specification include equitable service provision, maximum waiting-times, modernised and community-based service models consistent with the latest national guidance, more support for primary care practitioners, and a strong emphasis upon partnership working with other agencies also providing services and support for people likely to have alcohol problems (eg. Police, District Councils, Supporting People, etc).

Please see attached below a summary of the feedback received in the consulation and a report of the specific public and service user focused consultation.

Further details about the formal procurement process, including how prospective service providers can express an interest in delivering the new service, will be published in due course. The new service will commence July 2010.
