Hinchingbrooke Maternity Unit

The Maternity Unit at Hinchingbrooke NHS Trust was opened in 1983 offering a fully comprehensive maternity service, care is either midwifery led, consultant led or shared led care The unit has approximately 2,700 births. On the delivery unit there are 9 delivery rooms several being ensuite and one with access to the birthing pool, we have an obstetric theatre and a high risk delivery room, a bereavement suite and a four bedded observation bay. On the midwifery led birthing unit there are two low risk rooms furnished with Bradbury Mattresses and offering a home form home environment, one of the rooms has its own bath while the other has an ensuite shower room with access to the birthing pool.

Lilac ward is a mixed antenatal and postnatal ward, it has 28 beds which is made up of 5 bays each contained 5 beds. Each bay has its own en suite facilities which include wet room. There are three single rooms with en suite toilet facilities these rooms are used for women with a medical need or are available as amenity rooms at the cost of £150 per 24 hour period. These cannot be booked in advance as medical needs take priority.

There are consultant obstetricians and an experienced team of midwives who are well supported by trained midwifery assistants, receptionists, administration staff and medical secretaries. Hinchingbrooke maternity unit involves students both midwifery and medical with all aspects of care.
