Eat well in pregnancy and early years

eatwell pregnancy

A healthy diet and lifestyle can help you to stay well during pregnancy and give your baby the best possible start in life.

A healthy diet is very important if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. You don’t need to go on a special diet, but make sure you eat a variety of different foods everyday in order to get the right balance for nutrients for you and your baby.

You may find that you are more hungry during pregnancy however despite the saying there is no need to ‘eat for two’ . Eating too much can lead to excessive weight gain during your pregnancy which in turn can effect your health and increase your blood pressure.  Most women gain between 10-12.5kg (22-28lbs) whilst pregnant however this varies greatly depending on your weight before pregnancy. If you have concerns about your weight then talk to your midwife or GP.
