Top Tips for Kids!
All parents want their kids to grow up big and strong so here are some ideas for small steps towards eating well.
- Make time for meals, eating together as a family when you can
- Try to organise your day around three regular mealtimes Make a conscious effort to serve ‘Me Size Meals’. We often give grown up portions instead of giving them the kid size portions they need
- Watch packaging sizes, many foods and drinks are packaged for adults and for sharing so try saving some for later or dividing it out – it’s better for them and will save money too.
- Switch from sugary drinks to no added sugar drinks such as water, milk, unsweetened fruit juice or even sugar-free fizzy drinks.
- Frozen and canned veg count towards your 5 A Day so add some frozen peas or open a can of sweetcorn.
Active kids are happy kids!
Kids need to do 60 minutes of activity a day to help them stay happy and healthy. They don’t need to get their 60 active minutes all in one go – they can clock them up bit by bit through the day and it doesn’t have to be organised sport.
- Skip to it! Grab a skipping rope and hop, skip and jump towards your 60 minutes of activity a day.
