Opportunities in your locality

If you want to talk to someone about how to get started, you could contact your local Sports Development Team or Leisure Centre.  Most have exercise specialists who could advise on what’s best for you and the kind of exercise opportunities which would most suit your level of fitness.  See the links below.

Also, if your interested in knowing if there are walking groups, sports groups, disability sport, swimming and much more, please also use the links to Local Authority sites below:

Swimming Does it All

Swimming is an excellent way to get and stay active.  You'll have so much fun you won't even know you're working out.  For information on activities and swimming pools in your area click here.

Active Travel

Travelling ‘actively’, that is walking or cycling is another way of building up your daily level of physical activity. If you want to start walking or cycling to work, for example the services of the Cambridgeshire Travel for Work scheme may be of help.

Dancing

For older people who still like to dance – or who want to start dancing - there may be ‘dancing for fun and better health’ sessions in your local area. See the Age Concern webpages.

For anyone who would like to get their dancing shoes on see the Change4Life webpage.

Living Sport – Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

NHS Cambridgeshire works with a range of partners across Cambridgeshire to ensure there is a wide and varied range of opportunities for people to be physically active. We work with all the Local Authorities in Cambridgeshire and also the County Sports and Health Partnership - Living Sport.

If you want to be more active or play sport, if you are already active and want to do more or get involved in other aspects of sport, eg: volunteer in your local club, train to be a coach, or find out how your workplace could become an Active Workplace.

Exercise Referral Schemes

For people who have already been diagnosed with certain illnesses, and whose Doctor thinks a structured exercise course may benefit their health, there are Exercise Referral Schemes operating across Cambridgeshire.

If you think you fall into this category, please discuss with your Doctor. Details about a scheme operating in your locality can be found by clicking the link to the relevant Local Authority site above.
